The ‘Sloop Rigged’ Catalina 28 Mark II, underwent a design upgrade in 1995 and was produced until 2010. This particular hull is #643 and produced in 2000.

The Shiffeen is in excellent condition, well maintained and shows very well.

Features of note in the design of this GPR sailing sloop are the round bilge, with a racket stem, fin winged keel and sugar scoop stern. 

The flush deck design is easy to navigate and the raised main cabin trunk allows easy access to the mast and sail. An escape hatch is positioned on the foredeck and there are two ventilation hatches on the cabin trunk along with windows along the port and starboard sides of the cabin trunk. Two of the cabin windows are latched and the amount of light inside provided by the windows is exceptional. 

‘There is a large sliding main hatch into the cabin and 3 teak removable boards to secure the entryway. -

A large cockpit is well laid out, with wheel steering and full length seats both port and starboard, with two small lockers across the stern and a walkway through to the sugar scoop stern. The re boarding ladder is positioned between the two stern lockers and is supported with stainless steel railings with seats built in on the port and starboard sides.
All engine controls are mounted at the helm station and include an Autopilot system and mount for PC LAPTOP for navigation .
A foldout table completes the cockpit configuration a long with windowed ports beneath the seats running port and starboard.  
An approved separate locker on the port side of the cockpit holds the vessels PROPANE cylinder.

Stepping down into the cabin companion way, the galley is on the starboard with the head to port.

Behind the steps is a spacious athwartship double berth with a storage cabinet and access to 3 opening ports that provide light and ventilation from the cockpit.

The steps are mounted to the engine soundproofed cowling and is hinged to allow easy access to the engine.
The Westebeke Univesal 25XPBC 23HP fresh water cooled DIESEL engine is easily accessible from for, aft and starboard sides. A secured hatch accessed from the head provides access to the port side of the engine. 
AT 3200 RPM the ESTIMATED horsepower is 23.
CONTROLS are TELEFLEX push/pull cables.
The gearbox is a HURTH HBW50 and accessible by removing covers beneath the aft berth cushion.
The SHAFT GLAND is ‘dripless’
SHAFT is 1” Stainless Steel with a 3-bladed BRONZE PROPELLER 13”DX10P RH
The RUDDER is Composite FRP with SS stock and the STRUT is BRONZE “I” type
A RACOR canister type water separator Fuel Filter and sea cock are accessed in the engine compartment.
ENGINE EXHAUST is a wet type mixed through water muffler and discharged via the through-hull fitting.

DEWATERING PUMPS include;
1” 12v RULE 500GPM with FLOAT SWITCH
1 1/2” manual single diaphragm 
JABSCO 1 1/2” 12v MACERATOR pump

The galley has a two burner HILLERANGE  propane stove with thermo couplings, a propane sniffer alarm and the propane tank in its own locker in the cockpit,  meets ABYC and NFPA standards.
An ICEBOX is built into the cabinets port side. 
A gas sensor is installed beneath the stove.
Pressure cold and hot domestic water to the galley, head vanity, head shower and deck shower is provided by a 50 gallon [US] polyethylene tank and all plumbing is well executed and in good condition.
Hot water is supplied by a SEAWARD S600 A/C and engine coolant hot water tank mounted in the aft cockpit lazarette.
Twin stainless steel sinks and an icebox built into the cabin on the port side complete the galley.

A 20 gallon polyethylene holding tank, located beneath the port side cabin seat, macerator and associated plumbing meet requirements  and are in good condition. 

An upgrade is the ESPAR AIRTRONIC diesel heater installed in the aft cockpit locker  that distributes heat throughout the vessel.

A Carbon Monoxide alarm is mounted in the cabin and meets standards.
A rail mounted BBQ is located in the cockpit 

The cabin fixtures, upholstery and woodwork are in excellent condition, well maintained, and blinds are mounted over the light ports on the cabin trunk. 

The v berth is easy to access with ample headroom. Like the cabin, the upholstery, fixtures and overall appearance is this area is in good condition. Storage lockers beneath the berth are clean and dry.

The head has a Jabsco hand pump toilet and a small stainless steel sink and is in good condition. There is hot [6G tank] and cold water and the faucet can be pulled out for shower use..

The 12v/110v panel is mounted above the icebox/navigation/chart table top and forward of the head bulkhead and includes the Master Switch for the battery bank system.

Both 12v G24, starter and house batteries are located beneath the port settee and easily accessible.
All wiring is marine grade and well organized with 110 outlets GFI protected and meet ABYC standards.
The shore power has a Smart Plug and the AC Panel has a polarity warning light.
A 120VAC to 12VDC TRUE CHARGE 20 amp system charges the batteries and the 65amp alternator charges while under power

The mask is compression post stepped, alloy extrusion, with stainless steel rigging and double alloy spreaders.
There is upper and lower main shrouds, connected to individual deck fittings, supported by individual deck fittings supported by stainless steel wire connected to plates/rods bolted to substantial hull/bulkhead knees. Fore and aft stays are connected to stainless steel hull plates and alloy backing plates.
Overall condition of these components are clean and in very good condition. Rig tuning is good.
