The Cruisers 258 Sport Bowrider is one of ten models in four series of bowriders, sport decks, cuddies and one cruiser ranging from twenty-two to twenty-nine feet in a whole new series by itself, called the Cruisers Sport Series, by this Oconto, Wisconsin company.

If, like many others, you weren’t aware of Cruisers Yachts building boats this size, let me help clear up the confusion. KCS International Inc., parent company of Cruisers Yachts and Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts, recently acquired Azure Sport Boats and moved all manufacturing to Oconto and then made a decision to re-brand the Azure line. In KCS’ own words, “Effective immediately, the complete line of Azure Sport Boats from 22 - 29 feet are distinguished as the Cruisers Sport Series.”

Therefore, for 2014, it may be said that Cruisers Yachts offers a total of twenty models from twenty-two feet through to its fifty-four foot 540SC flagship yacht. This 258 Sport bowrider is one of four Cruisers Sport Series bowriders ranging from twenty-three to twenty-nine feet.

The 258 Sport is built with hand laid high performance fibreglass on the brand’s Sure-Trac hull with a composite transom and a vinylester barrier coat below the water line which “eliminates blistering.” The premium gelcoat standard hull colour is Vibrant White Armor Plus with “Imedge” accent colour. Standard accent colours for the hull band, leading edge deck stripe and deck intake vent cover include red, blue, mocha, black, and silver. The same colours are optionally available for full hull sides and boot stripes or choose the “Dimensional Chrome Sport Graphics” package.

Curves, curves, and more curves adorn the lines of the 258 Sport. It starts with the curvaceous extended swim platform which is available with a soft covering and comes standard with a 4-step telescoping stainless steel swim ladder. A second similar ladder is standard at the bow within the forward anchor/rope locker. A stern fresh water shower is standard – optional for the bow. The cockpit is entered through a starboard side walk-thru stainless steel gate with pad and seat cushion.
 

Once inside the fibreglass lined, overboard draining cockpit, the curves become more obvious. A full U-shaped lounge completely surrounds the cockpit forward right to the open backs of the two adjustable helm bucket seats with flip-up bottom bolsters. These seats may be optionally height adjustable as well. All seating features composite seat bases and backs. A lockable, water-tight storage compartment is provided as well as storage found beneath the curvy lounge and an integrated 48-quart cooler is included. A second bow cooler is provided. The double-wide center transom section of this lounge seat converts to a 3-way aft sundeck. This sundeck may be motorized if you so choose. Snap-in cockpit carpet is also available.

In-floor storage is provided as is a fibreglass lined head compartment with opening portlight concealed within the portside helm. A Corian® countertop and porta-potti are both optional in this compartment. Curved surrounding bow seating with backrests provides hinged bottom cushion access to storage below and folding armrests are optionally available. Drop-in, two-piece bow filler cushions are available as is an optional white table with both bow and stern mounting brackets. Stainless steel cupholders are conveniently placed throughout the cockpit.

The helm of the 258 Sport features standard power steering with a custom tilt wheel facing custom fog-resistant gauges of the normal sterndrive complement plus a trim gauge, digital depth gauge and hourmeter. A compass, GPS with 4” LCD screen, and trim tabs are optional. A stereo AM/FM/CD player with USB port and four speakers is standard. This may be upgraded to a premium sound system with amplifier, subwoofer, six speakers and transom remote.

Other notable standard equipment includes flush-mount, lift-up stainless steel cleats, bow scuff plate, automatic fire extinguishing system, recessed halogen docking lights, bimini top with both bow and cockpit covers, and a stainless steel propeller. Notable options include a wakeboard tower with racks and with or without a pair of speakers, thru-hull exhaust, transom outdrive tilt switch, bow windscreen door, underwater lighting, and full canvas enclosure.
