Description
JJ Taylor & Sons built 87 Contessa 32’s in Brampton Ontario, using a set of molds for the hull and deck, sent over from England
British and Canadian vessels were constructed using only fibreglass [GPR] and this Canadian model was also constructed with fibreglass [GPR]
Some Canadian vessels, particularly the 24’s had a balsa-core.
Both the British and Canadian Contessa’s meet Lloyd’s hull specifications.
The interior of the Canadian model is laid out differently than the British models, but overall they are the same sailboats.
The Contessa 32 has had great success on the racing circuit since its inception and is still considered competitive today.
Known to be a proven blue water vessel with excellent sailing performance, offering speed and seaworthiness and stability, this is still today, a sought after sailboat.
Contessa owners mention the forgiving nature of their boats, a responsive helm and beautiful windward performance. The Contessa is affectionately known as a submarine with sails [wet boat] but that’s not unexpected when she’s doing 25 knots while carrying full sail.
With 4500 lbs ballast being 50% of her overall displacement, the Contessa has great stability.

This is an excellent example of a Contessa 32, that has seen continuous upgrades, service and overall maintenance that’s rarely found these day.
Listed here is information on the work the present owner has put into this meticulously kept 1982 Contessa 32.
