The GTD deck boat series from Glastron is not only redesigned but also innovative, flexible in configuration, plus customizable. The series is available in twenty and twenty-two feet and with both outboard and sterndrive power. It is also available in, catch this, three distinct console and deck and thus interior layout configurations: the normal bowrider/deck boat configuration with driver and passenger consoles with a full walk-through windshield; driver and passenger consoles each with a low profile roadster-style windscreen; or, driver’s side only console equipped with a low profile roadster-style windscreen.

The GTD 200, the specific model of this review, is the outboard-powered version of the twenty footer with power available from Evinrude, Mercury, or Yamaha from 115 to a recommended maximum of 200 horsepower. Also, choose from three hull side colours in Crimson Red, Denim Blue, or Jet Black, all with white decks and hull bottoms and complete with the signature Glastron white sweep “Spear” design along the hull sides. With any of the above, further choose Black or Savannah Sand interior upholstery accenting or go with the Cognac colour choice for both upholstery and accenting.

All three interior configurations feature a driver’s adjustable bucket seat with a forward flip-up bolster. Aside from the passenger console in two out of the three interior configurations, single level full cockpit surround “arena-style” seating completes the interior, and of course in the driver’s side console only configuration, full and complete surround seating envelopes the interior. And with the very rounded cockpit bow design of the deck boat, the seating is thus full “U”-shaped both bow and stern. Lots of seating and elbow room for the rated capacity of eleven persons.

Another unusual but most practical feature of the entire GTD series is a centre port side entrance step-over to assist in side entry from the dock. It also augments the sometimes, for some persons, tricky entry utilizing the starboard side swim platform with step-over notched transom section. The hinged very upper portion of the port hull side with attached interior coaming bolster cushion swings open to the outside. The interior seat cushion removes and the person entering can then step over and through to the remaining composite seat bottom support, or can swing this hinged seat bottom support up and out of the way to allow stepping directly onto the floor of the boat.

With the one-level, fully surrounding seating of the GTD series, there is no distinguishable or separate passenger seat per se. It is simply another one of the cushions similar and joined to all the others except where the passenger console separates the bow seating cushions from the main cockpit seating cushions. With the passenger console, the padded aft-facing surface of the console acts as a backrest to allow the passenger to sit facing aft by removing the aforementioned port side entry seat cushion and swinging the hinged seat bottom up and out of the way. The port side seat immediately aft of this side entrance has an optional portable backrest available to allow forward facing seating for the passenger.

A starboard side swim platform boarding ladder with hinged lid is standard. Storage is found beneath all seat cushions. Beneath the aft-most starboard side seat cushion is a dedicated insulated cooler box. A cockpit in-floor storage compartment is ideally suited for watersports accessories. An AM/FM Kicker® stereo with MP3 port, Bluetooth® connectivity, and four speakers is standard as is a USB charge port, hydraulic tilt steering, a GPS speedometer plus multi-function instrumentation. A Glastron single axle, custom-matched trailer with disc brakes is also standard or can be deleted entirely.

Notable options include a Convenience Package which provides a depth sounder and hour meter, and an XL Package which includes the Convenience Package plus stainless steel interior assist handles and cupholders, pull-up cleats, and cockpit Reed Mat in either Dune or Ash tones. A Fishing Package is available which provides fishing seating, fish finder, livewell, and bow casting platform.

Notable single item available options include bow fill-in cushions, cockpit table, a portable cooler which stores within the passenger console, porta-pottie with privacy curtain, the aforementioned cockpit Reed Mat, swim platform mat, removable bow ladder, docking lights, underwater lighting, transom shower, electric anchor windlass, removable ski pylon, gas-assist hinged wakeboard tower, stereo and steering wheel upgrades, a bimini top, bow cover, cockpit cover, plus trailer upgrades.

Glastron’s GTD series in its various configurations will no doubt draw considerable and well deserved attention as it caters to an extremely broad cross-section of day-use pleasure boaters in search of flexibility. Glastron calls it, “Redesigned with out-of-the-box thinking.”
